Seçil Erzan, who is accused of defrauding many people, including well-known football players Arda Turan, Fernando Muslera, and Emre Belözoğlu, by promising a high-profit “Fatih Terim Fund,” faced her ex-boyfriend lawyer Candaş Gürol for the first time in court. Testifying as a witness, Candaş Gürol stated, “Fatih hocasaid he deposited money in the bank but did not mention a fund-like system. He only said, ‘Let’s just do a damage assessment.’ It was beyond my imagination that Seçil would be involved in such a scheme.”

Seçil Erzan, who is accused of defrauding 21 people, including well-known football players Arda Turan, Fernando Muslera, Emre Belözoğlu, and Selçuk İnan, for approximately 25 million dollars and 7 million 384 thousand lira, by claiming to have a reliable fund with high profits and the participation of names like Fatih Terim, continued to be tried. The trial, with seven defendants, including the detained defendants Seçil Erzan and Ali Yörük, and some of the released defendants, was held at the Istanbul 41st Heavy Penal Court. Some plaintiffs and their lawyers also attended the trial.

“After everything was going so well with Seçil, I was surprised by the sudden 180-degree change”

After Seçil Erzan and Semih Kaya’s conversation, lawyer Candaş Gürol appeared in court as a witness. Testifying in court, Gürol said that he met Seçil Erzan in July 2022 and their emotional relationship began. He stated, “During the time I knew her, Seçil was working at the bank. She was a loved, successful, and hardworking woman. I did not witness any illegal behavior from her. She was considered a good manager, and we did not have any problems. At the end of December, and in these times of January, everything about Seçil started to change 180 degrees. The lively person was gone, secret phone conversations started. I happened to come across it a few times, and the moment Candaş came, the phone started to hang up. I even thought she was cheating on me. Honestly, I was surprised by the sudden 180-degree change with Seçil when everything was going so well.”

Gürol stated that İsmail İbrahim Çağlar was both his client and a loved friend, saying, “When I broke up with Seçil, he called me, and we met. He said he would invest money and make a profit. I told him, ‘I’m a lawyer, but I don’t know anything about investing.’ He said, ‘What if I bring the money through you?’ This situation scared me. I called Seçil and asked, ‘Did you say something like this to İbrahim Bey?’ We made an investment agreement and reached an agreement. The money was supposed to come to my account, and my job would be done. The money arrived one day before the day I would receive it, and one of İbrahim Bey’s relatives passed away, so he went to the funeral. He told me, ‘Go and get the money, leave it at the office, they will collect it.’ I was supposed to carry cash, and I got worried. This is the story of the money with İbrahim Çağlar.”

Gürol stated that he was Fatih Terim’s lawyer one and a half years before, and said, “I definitely didn’t know that Seçil Erzan was doing something illegal. The fund was mentioned, but I thought it was a banking activity. When the incident happened, I talked to the coach. Fatih hocasaid he deposited money in the bank but did not mention a fund-like system. He just said, ‘Let’s just do a damage assessment.’ It was an emotional period for me, although I was upset with the coach, I ended my relationship with him and his family in a good way.”

When asked if Fatih Terim played a role in his introduction to Seçil Erzan, Gürol said, “Of course, there was no direct introduction where he took my arm and introduced us, but Fatih hocasaid, ‘We have a girl, she’s good, take her out for dinner.'”

“It was beyond my imagination that Seçil would be involved in such a scheme”

Gürol continued his statement by saying, “I heard about the fund, he said ‘the bank has a high-yield investment tool for its customers.’ I didn’t ask who was involved, but I heard the words fund, bank, and managers. It was beyond my imagination that Seçil would be involved in such a scheme. You ask once, then ten times, then a hundred times. I couldn’t ask for the thousandth time. There are many people, there are cameras, so there must be nothing illegal. I said,” Gürol said. He also mentioned that when asked during his testimony, “When Buse lady and her husband said ‘We gave it in cash,’ I thought Fatih hocaknew about it.”
